ARLINGTON — The Sam Houston bowling team's NCAA Tournament run begins at the Arlington Regional on Friday hosted at the International Training & Research Center.
The Bearkat's first matchup will pit them against a Conference USA foe in Louisiana Tech in the first round of the double-elimination regional bracket. The winner of the match will face either No. 4 seeded North Carolina A&T or the winner of Alabama State and Belmont Abbey.
Each round will consist of teams competing in a best-of-three match format, bowled in the following order: five-person team match; Baker total pin fall; and best-of-seven Baker match play.
In their inaugural season in CUSA, the Kats have faced the class of the country in their matches. Five teams in the conference received at-large bids to the NCAA tournament while Jax State took the conference championship as well as the top overall seed in the tournament.
Sam Houston was joined by Youngstown State, Arkansas State, Louisiana Tech and defending national champion Vanderbilt as at-large bids for CUSA.
The Bearkats last faced Louisiana Tech in the bracket stage at the Music City Classic on March 17. The Kats ultimately fell to the Bulldogs, 1,226 - 1,136 and would finish in sixth place in the tournament while Louisiana Tech would finish just above Sam Houston in fifth.
First round play at the NCAA tournament against Louisiana Tech will begin on Friday at 9 a.m.
