HARAHAN, La. — The Sam Houston bowling team qualified seventh for Sunday's championship bracket after going 3-2 on day two of competition at the Colonial Lanes Classic hosted by Tulane on Saturday. 

The Bearkats are 7-3 with 10,055 total pins which has them behind first-place Vanderbilt, Nebraska, Arkansas State, Wichita State, Louisiana Tech and North Carolina A&T.

With a day of learning on Friday, SHSU head coach Brad Hagen's words were to finish the frames and be well rested for Saturday's qualifying. On Saturday, it was the routine and focus Hagen was 
looking for out of his squad.

"Today was another day of having to close frames late in matches to secure wins. Routine 
needs to be routine, and we always need to stay focused on our training when matches are 
close," Hagen said. "We close, and it doesn't work out. At least we did our jobs and that's 
easier to swallow and bounce back verse the later."

With the qualifying spot at seventh, the Bearkats are set to face eighth-seeded Tulane on 
Sunday morning.

"We're super close and we need to stay in the moment and only focus on the moment. Nothing more, nothing less," Hagen said. "The better we do that the more the scale will start to tip in our favor."

Despite the grind of the tournament, the Kats finished off Saturday with a top 5 win against Youngstown State in the final game of the day, with a high game of 247 pins for Breana Chewens.
