Kats grab first ever win against LA Tech

HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston rallied in the game's final minutes to pick up its first-ever win against Louisiana Tech with a 70-65 victory at Johnson Coliseum on Saturday afternoon.

The Bearkats (9-10, 2-7 CUSA) only led for less than 30 seconds of the second quarter before taking the lead with 2:30 left in the final period.

Sam Houston made each of its final seven shots from the field in the game, including Sydnee Kemp's dagger 3-pointer from the right corner to put the Kats up 67-63 with only 39 seconds to play.

Kemp finished with 10 points in the game and was one of five Kats to reach double figures in the scoring column, led by Nyla Inmon's 19 points and eight rebounds. Deborah Ogayemi recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Fanta Kone added 14 points and Whitney Dunn 11.

The Kats' defense was on full display, forcing 30 turnovers by the Lady Techsters which it converted into 25 points.

Sam Houston will remain home to host FIU and Liberty next week. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.
