Sims gets call up to Puerto Rico Senior National Team

Sam Houston freshman standout Indigo Sims is taking her game to the international stage.

Sims has been called up to the women's soccer Puerto Rico Senior National Team in time to compete in the Turkish Women's Cup. The event will be held in Alanya, Republic of Turkey on Feb. 17-26.

Sims missed almost a month of the season dealing with an injury this fall, but she fit right in when she made her Sam Houston debut. The forward from Dallas scored three goals, including one game winner, to help the Bearkats finish fourth in Conference USA on her way to being named to the league's All-Freshman team.

"We are very proud of Indigo," head coach Sonia Curvelo said. "This is her first call up for the Senior National Team. She has grown tremendously since coming here in August. Her confidence as a player and strength as a player has consistently improved.

"She has the full support of her teammates and I during her time with the National Team and know her experience will only strengthen her and help our women's soccer program advance into next levels."
