HUNTSVILLE – Followed a 20-day layoff from dual match action due to weather the Sam Houston women's tennis team finally was able to take the court against Texas State Sunday afternoon.
The Bobcats rallied after losing the doubles point to win five of the six singles match for a 5-2 dual match victory over the home team at the Beckner Tennis Stadium.
"We came out strong and won the doubles point but we didn't compete as well as we needed to in singles," head coach
Rob Hubbard said. "We're not blaming it on the layoff. We just need to compete better than we did today."
Jacqueline Schnabel and
Nayuma Subba defeated Sofia Fortuno and Maria Lora 7-5 in the number one doubles slot.
Christine Jevicky and Adithi Venkatakrishna topped Calle Creath and Kiana Graham 6-4 at number three doubles.
Christine Jevicky downed Callie Creath 6-2 7-6 (7-3) at the number two spot for the Kats' only singles win.
The contest marked the last home match for Sam Houston until April. The Kats play six of their next matches on the road as they begin Conference USA play. Sam Houston's women return home on April 11 to play host to Middle Tennessee State.
