JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Jax State defeated Sam Houston 4-0 as both teams opened 2025 Conference USA women's tennis action Friday at the Jax State Tennis Courts.
The Gamecocks upped their season record to 6-4. The Bearkats now stand 4-5. Play in doubles and singles was stopped when the doubles point and match victory were clinched. Last year Jax State placed third in the Conference USA regular season standings.
The contest was the first tilt for Sam Houston in a two-match road swing which continues when the Kats take on the newest CUSA member, Kennesaw State, on Sunday on the Owls' home courts in Kennesaw, Ga.
Aaliyah Hohmann and
Ella Fitcher were in a tight number two doubles match trailing 6-5 when victories at number one and three positions clinched the doubles point.
The Bearkats'
Nayuma Subba led Polina Ramenskaja 6-3 3-4 and Adithi Venkatakrishna had split sets 6-4 1-6 with Aneka Patel to go to a third set when the match was clinched.
The two dual matches this weekend are the first in a six-match conference road swing for the Kats. Sam Houston returns home to play host to Middle Tennessee on April 11.
