Tennis to travel to LA Tech on Saturday

RUSTON, La. – The Sam Houston women's tennis team will challenge Louisiana Tech in the Bearkats' third Conference USA dual match on Saturday at noon at the LA Tech Tennis Complex. 

The duel marks the Kats' third outing in the squad's current 6-match road swing. Sam Houston enters the weekend with a 4-6 overall record after losses at Jax State and Kennesaw State. The Kats will be looking for their first Conference USA victory. 

"It's been almost a week since our last competition and the players are ready to get back to action," head coach Rob Hubbard said. "Four of our last six matches have been on the road so they know how hard we will have to fight on this trip." 

Louisiana Tech stands 10-6 in non-conference play this season. LA Tech's match with the Bearkats marks the home team's league opener. 

The Sam Houston and Louisiana Tech tennis squads are meeting for the 26th time in the pair's history. The Bearkats own a 13-12 advantage in the series having won three of the last five occasions the two have battled. 

Sunday the Bearkat women continue their road swing the with a non-conference contest versus LSU Shreveport. Sam Houston posted a pair of 4-0 dual match victories over LSU Shreveport in pair's first meetings on Feb.1 at home in Huntsville. 

The Kats will follow up the current road swing with two more Conference USA trips as Sam Houston takes on NM State in Las Cruces on April 4 and UTEP in El Paso on April 6. 

Regular season action will climax with home matches at the Chuck and Wanda Beckner Tennis Center versus Middle Tennessee on April 11 and Liberty on April 13. The annual CUSA Tournament will be played April 17 through 19 in Lynchburg, Va.
