HUNTSVILLE - The Sam Houston women's tennis team will close out its 2025 regular season campaign with a pair of Conference USA home matches Friday and Sunday at the Beckner Tennis Center.
On Friday the Kats will face Middle Tennessee State, who brings a 15-6 overall record to Huntsville. Sunday morning the Kats complete their regular schedule versus a Liberty squad carrying a 10-11 overall record.
Normally the final home weekend of Bearkat tennis action would be highlighted by Senior Day activities, but this year's roster consists of four juniors, one sophomore and one freshman.
The Kats will be playing shorthanded again Friday and Sunday due to injury. Last weekend Sam Houston fielded only five players and had to default the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles contests.
Nayuma Subba, Christine Jevicky, Adithi Venkatakrishman, Aaliyah Hohmann and Ella Fitcher will all be playing singles and doubles Friday and Sunday.
"Starting with two players out is tough but these ladies are fighters," head coach Rob Hubbard said. "When last week's contest was clinched by our opponents at 4-0 we were still holding our own through two sets in each of the unfinished contests. All five of our players are ready to give it everything we've got in our final two home matches."
The Kats will participate in the annual Conference USA postseason tournament in Lynchburg, Va., April 17-19. The winner of the conference postseason event will earn the league's 2025 NCAA National Championships automatic berth.
