Kats near top at Southern Queens

BATON ROUGE, La. — The Sam Houston bowling team is once again in solid position to compete for a championship at Southern Queens at All Star Lanes on Friday.
The Bearkats find themselves in second place after the first day after going 3-1 with 4,755 total pins. UAB is in first place with 4,802 pins while Jax State (4,573), Southern (4,535), Alabama State (4,458), Alabama A&M (4,446), Texas Southern (4,312), Florida A&M (4,191) and Grambling (2,972) round out the nine-team field.
"Overall today was not great," head coach Brad Hagen said. "We're still fighting our execution despite having a solid game plan and discussions about the scenarios. Routine needs to be routine, and we need to stay disciplined with our shot making.
"If we can do a better job at that Saturday and Sunday we'll have a chance to win this weekend and get the wins we need."
Sam Houston picked up wins Friday over TSU 946-807, Alabama State 1,017-764 and Florida A&M 893-841with the lone loss coming to UAB 990-976.
