
The Kats Fall to the Cardinals

HUNTSVILLE— Lamar scored seven runs over the third and fourth innings to defeat Sam Houston 9-4 on Tuesday night at the Bearkat Softball Complex.Â
The Bearkats (7-4) and Cardinals (6-4) were scoreless through the first two innings before Lamar broke through in the top of the third. The Cardinals scored four runs in the inning, highlighted by two home runs, and added three more runs in the fourth to take control.Â
Sam Houston responded in the bottom of the fourth when Veronica Harrison hit a solo home run to put the Bearkats on the board. The Bearkats carried that momentum into the fifth inning, limiting Lamar to one hit and scoring three runs of their own. Kinsey Hobbs recorded her first career home run during the rally.Â
Lamar added three more runs in the seventh inning to secure the victory.Â
Freshman Sophia Lundstrom led Sam Houston with two hits. Tiffany Sanchez started in the circle and recorded three strikeouts. Freshman Carlee Bubela closed the game and carries a 4.11 ERA.Â
Sam Houston will face HCUÂ on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at the Bearkat Softball Complex to open the Bearkat Invitational Tournament.Â
