Bearkats Beat HCU to Open Bearkat Invitational

HUNTSVILLE — The Bearkats opened play at the Bearkat Invitational with a 7-3 win over HCU on Thursday night at the Bearkat Softball Complex.Â
Sam Houston (8-4) took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and continued to extend its advantage in the second, third and sixth innings. The Huskies (1-9) responded with runs in the sixth and seventh, but the late rally fell short as the Bearkats secured the 7-3 victory.Â
Amy Abke pitched five innings, recording three strikeouts and earning her third win of the season to improve to 3-0 with a 2.42 ERA.Â
Morgan Holliday added a hit in the third inning for her second home run of the season and the 10th of her career. As a team, the Bearkats totaled 10 hits, including five doubles.Â
Sam Houston continues play in the Bearkat Invitational on Friday, Feb. 20, facing Austin Peay at 4 p.m. and HCU at 6:30 p.m.Â
