STILLWATER, Okla. – Sam Houston will test its mettle on the road with a 3-game series at Oklahoma State this weekend, beginning Friday night at O'Brate Stadium.
Friday and Sunday's games can be watched on ESPN+ while each game can also be heard on the OSU radio network. The entire series can also be followed via Statbroadcast or by following @BearkatsBSB on Instagram and X.
The Kats three of their first four games of the year but have since dropped three of four after falling on Tuesday, 5-4, to Houston at Don Sanders Stadium. The Kats will face the Cougars again on March 3 and the following midweek will be at Baylor, giving SHSU a stretch of five of eight games against Big 12 opponents.
The Kats have been led by their pitching staff early this year, ranking third in CUSA through two weeks of play with a 3.31 team ERA. Much of that has come from its weekend rotation of Ryan Peterson, Tyler Ryden and Collin Aloisio who have posted a combined 2.30 ERA in six total starts and are slated to get the ball in similar order against the Cowboys.
Offensively Sam Houston will be looking to return to form similar to its series win at McNeese, having scored more than four runs just once in its last five games since leaving Lake Charles. Hunter Alvord is coming off a strong showing vs Houston with a pair of hits, including his first Bearkat homer, while Wes Baker and Nathan Fink each had multiple RBI in last Sunday's win over UIC.
Oklahoma State, meanwhile, has played a challenging slate so far this year and enters the weekend with a 5-3 overall record after taking three of four games at Grand Canyon. They boast a potent offense which seems to have found its early-season stride, most recently run-ruling Central Arkansas at home on Tuesday by a 14-3 margin in seven innings, the third straight game the Cowboys have reached double digits in scoring.
