STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State had everything working on Saturday as they clinched the weekend series with a 20-0 win over Sam Houston at O'Brate Stadium.
The Cowboys (7-3) homered six times, three from Kollin Ritchie, and starting pitcher Ethan Lund struck out 14 Bearkat (4-6) hitters in 6.0 innings of work to go to 2-0 on the year.
Tyler Ryden was the first of six Bearkat pitchers to see the hill, taking the loss to fall to 1-2 on the year. He lasted just 1.2 innings with two strikeouts and six runs allowed, but just one earned. In all, Sam Houston pitching struck out 15 Cowboy batters, six coming from freshman Gabe Winans.
OSU needed just two batters to get on the board in the first inning with back-to-back doubles from Alex Conover and Brock Thompson before Ryden wiggled his way out of further damage.
An inning later it looked as though he would avoid further damage following a 2-out hit batter, but a dropped fly ball in left field off the bat of Conover opened the gates the Cowboys went on to score five unearned runs in the inning, highlighted by a 3-run homer off the bat of Ritchie.
They added five more in the third to up the lead to 11-0, getting a 2-run triple by Conover, an RBI double from Thompson and another 2-run blast from Ritchie.
Meanwhile, the Bearkat offense was barely able to touch Lund after a single by Caleb Cotton to open the game. The OSU lefty followed the base hit by striking out the next 10 hitters he faced and not allowing a base runner again until a 2-out double by Nathan Fink in the top of the fourth.
Winans put up the first zero for a Bearkat pitcher when he struck out the side in the fourth on his way to six total strikeouts in 2.2 innings of relief, but OSU got to him in the fifth for three runs on a pair of blasts and three more in the sixth on a 3-run blast by Thompson.
OSU capped its scoring with another 3-run homer, this time by Danny Wallace just over the right-field fence in the eighth.
