LOCKPORT, Ill. — Sam Houston had a strong start on day one at the Lewis Flyer Classic on Friday at the Strike N' Spare II.
The Bearkats went 5-0 with 5,281 total pins, which has them in second place heading into day two. Sam Houston is 106 pins behind leader Jax State. Newman, Vanderbilt and Youngstown State round out the top five.
"Historically speaking this event has served well for us and today was a big start to the weekend," head coach Brad Hagen said. "The pattern allowed us to open the lane up pretty quickly which plays into our strengths. Every win is important and that's our priority. Our focus is to go 1-0 in every moment and the wins will come.
"Saturday is moving day and we're in great shape to give this event a run this weekend which we won 2 years ago but our focus is Ws."
Sam Houston is back in action Saturday as the Kats look to advance to the championship bracket.
