LOCKPORT, Ill. — Sam Houston remained hot on the lanes during day two of the Lewis Flyers Classic at the Strike N' Spare II.
A day after going 5-0, the Bearkats went 4-1 Saturday to secure the No. 2 seed in the championship bracket. Sam Houston has 10,489 total pins which trails Jax State and is ahead of Vanderbilt, Sacred Heart, Arkansas State, Maryville, Newman and Youngstown State in the top eight.
"Today we had to work for every pin and every match today we had to stay on top of our game," head coach Brad Hagen said. "We had a full card of quality sneaky teams today that could get hot at any second so we had to stay in the moment to control our plan of attack. Any time you can get four wins a day it's great and oddly, our best set of the day was our loss. We've put ourselves in a position to win, and we need to keep making quality shots and give ourselves opportunities to get the Ws."
Breana Chewens, Emily Hart and Miya Greene all finished in the top 20 in the individual competition. Chewens finished fourth overall and led the squad with a 224.8 average on her way to earning a spot on the all-tournament team.
Hart had a season high average of 214.60 to finish eighth, and Greene rolled a 209.20 average to finish 20th.
Sam Houston will compete in the championship bracket on Sunday.
