HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston Bearkats secured its first CUSA home series of the year against NM State with a 3-1 victory Sunday at the Bearkat Softball Complex.

The teams were deadlocked for three frames until Sam Houston (18-13, 4-2 CUSA) struck for three runs in the fourth inning, going up 1-0 on an Aggie (14-14, 4-2 CUSA) error and a 2-run homer from Tricia Yarotsky. NM State managed a run in the final inning, but the Bearkat defense held strong down the stretch to seal the win.

Tiffany Sanchez flirted with her second no-hitter in as many weeks, holding NMSU without a hit for the first six frames until Joleanna Hair led off the seventh with a pinch-hit solo homer to account for the Aggies' only run of the day. Still, the righty finished the job and moved to 6-5 on the year with the complete-game win, finishing with five strikeouts.

Yarotsky finished the day 2-for-3 at the plate, accounting for half of the Kats' four hits in the game.

The Bearkats will return to action Wednesday in a midweek game against UTSA at the Bearkat Softball Complex, with first pitch set for 6 p.m. They will then head east for a 3-game CUSA set at Kennesaw State, beginning Friday. All games this week for the Bearkats can be watched on ESPN+.
