
Bearkats Defeat UTSA 4-1

HUNTSVILLE — The Sam Houston Bearkats earned a 4-1 victory over UTSA in a midweek matchup Wednesday night at the Bearkat Softball Complex.Â
Sam Houston (19-13, 4-2 Conference USA) surrendered an early run in the second inning when UTSA's Makayla Madrid hit her third home run of the season to right-center field.Â
The Bearkats responded in the third inning as Sophia Lundstrom delivered an RBI double to score Morgan Holliday and tie the game at 1-1.Â
Sam Houston took control in the fourth inning. Bella Perez drove in two runs with a single, helping extend the lead to 4-1. The Bearkats held UTSA (17-13, 6-0 AAC) scoreless for the remainder of the game.Â
Kendall Daniel pitched a complete game, allowing one run while recording one strikeout, improving her record to 6-2.Â
Perez recorded her 26th and 27th RBIs of the season, moving within one of team leader Veronica Harrison, who has 28. Lundstrom had two hits in the game and now leads the team with 44 this season. She also extended her team lead in doubles with nine.Â
The Bearkats will travel to face Kennesaw State in a three-game series Friday through Sunday at Bailey Park in Kennesaw, Georgia. All games will be streamed on ESPN+.
