COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Sam Houston was defeated 18-3 in a run-rule decision by Texas A&M on Tuesday night at Davis Diamond.

The Bearkats (21-15, 6-3 CUSA) started Cassie Marshal in the circle for her first appearance of the season. Sam Houston opened with back-to-back hits in the top of the first but was unable to bring a run across.

Texas A&M (23-9, 5-1 SEC) quickly created separation, blasting three home runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 5-0 lead. Carlee Bubela entered in relief following the early surge.

The Aggies continued to apply pressure in the second, holding the Bearkats scoreless while adding four more runs. Aggiess' Ariel Kowalewski highlighted the inning with her second home run of the game.

Sam Houston broke through in the third when Veronica Harrison delivered a two-run single down the left-field line, cutting the deficit to 9-2. Texas A&M responded immediately, regaining momentum with another home run and continuing to extend its lead.

Kinsey Hobbs added a run for the Bearkats in the fourth with an RBI single, scoring Morgan Holliday, who advanced to second on a stolen base the previous play.

The Aggies sealed the run-rule victory with a six-run fourth inning. Sam Houston turned a double play in the inning to limit further damage but was held scoreless in the fifth, ending the game at 18-3.

The Bearkats return home to host Middle Tennessee in a three-game series beginning Friday at 6 p.m. at the Bearkat Softball Complex in Huntsville, Texas.
