Bearkats Sweep MTSU

HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston secured a 2-1 extra-inning victory over Middle Tennessee on Sunday afternoon at the Bearkat Softball Complex, completing a three-game conference sweep.Â
The Bearkats (24-15, 9-3 Conference USA) and the Blue Raiders (13-19, 3-9 CUSA) traded quick, scoreless innings early behind strong defensive play on both sides.Â
Sam Houston broke through in the bottom of the fourth inning with a heads-up play to take a 1-0 lead. The Bearkats held the advantage until the sixth, when Middle Tennessee strung together hits to even the score at 1-1.Â
After a scoreless seventh inning forced extra innings, Sam Houston capitalized in the bottom frame. Veronica Harrison delivered a walk-off single to bring home Sophia Lundstrom, who reached second base earlier in the inning with a double.Â
Kendall Daniel earned the win in the circle, allowing just three hits while recording a career-high 10 strikeouts.Â
The Bearkats will return to action next weekend when they travel to Western Kentucky to continue conference play beginning Thursday, April 2.Â
