LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Sam Houston dialed up the winning formula once again on Saturday night, coming from behind for a 4-3 win over NM State to clinch the weekend series over the Aggies at Askew Field.

The Bearkats (16-23, 6-11 CUSA) gave up two runs in the second inning, but the pitching duo of Tyler Ryden and Connor Mondey shut the Aggies (16-21, 7-10 CUSA) down the rest of the way to secure a 1-run win for the second straight night.

Sean Bazmore delivered a 2-run double in the fifth inning with two outs to knot it up and it stayed that way until the eighth when pinch runner Kirby Orth found the plate on a wild pitch from Dylan Weeks to push the Kats up 3-2.

Ryan Franden followed with an RBI single, his second hit of the game, for an insurance run to score Jace Martinez. That run proved to be huge after NMSU got one back in the eighth and put the leadoff man on in the ninth; however, that was no issue for Mondey who left the runner stranded when he punched out Chris Daniels to end the game.

Mondey's 3.0-inning relief effort earned him his first win of the year and came after Ryden logged 6.0 innings, tying his season high, and struck out four.

Weeks fell to 2-1 with the loss for NMSU.

Sam Houston will conclude its series against the Aggies on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 11:00 a.m. CT. The game is set to be aired on ESPN+.
