
Kats close regular season against Gamecocks

HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston wraps up conference play this weekend with a three-game series against Jacksonville State at the Bearkat Softball Complex.Â
The Bearkats (29-12, 13-11 Conference USA) enter the series following an 0-3 weekend and will look to rebound against conference-leading Jacksonville State (39-13, 21-3 CUSA).Â
Sam Houston trails 3-8 in the all-time series, which dates to 1999. The Gamecocks have won the last five meetings, including the most recent matchup in last season's conference tournament.Â
Freshman Sophia Lundstrom leads the Bearkats offensively with a .400 batting average, along with 16 doubles, two triples and 70 hits. Veronica Harrison leads the team with 17 home runs, 45 RBIs and a .769 slugging percentage.Â
In the circle, Tiffany Sanchez leads the pitching staff with a 2.63 ERA, a .211 opponent batting average and 100 strikeouts, along with 11 wins this season.Â
The series opens at 6 p.m. Thursday, continues at 3 p.m. Friday and concludes at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. Sam Houston will honor its graduating seniors during a pregame ceremony Saturday.Â
