
Bears close out sweep of Kats

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Missouri State Bears completed a weekend sweep of Sam Houston on Sunday afternoon, handing the Bearkats a 12-0 defeat in seven innings in the series finale at Hammons Field.
Missouri State (21-9, 9-3 CUSA) scored in the first inning for the third straight day, plating four runs in the opening frame, another in the second before breaking it open with a 5-run fourth.
That early wave gave the loss to starter Tate Hickman after the sophomore was charged with eight runs in 3.0 innings of work with three strikeouts.
On the other side, Jason Schaaf delivered his best game of the year, shutting the Kats (14-17, 4-8 CUSA) out for all 7.0 innings, allowing just two hits with seven strikeouts. Each member of the Bears' starting lineup reached base, including Curry Sutherland and Bobby Atkinson who had three RBI apiece.
The Kats managed just two hits in the game, getting a double from Jeric Curtis in the first inning and a single from Ryan Franden in the third to extend his hit streak to 10 games.
UP NEXT
Sam Houston now head home to host Houston on Tuesday in the final game of the Don Sanders Cup series before hosting DBU for a 3-game weekend series. Tuesday's game vs the Cougars is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. first pitch and is set to be broadcast on ESPN+.
