HUNTSVILLE - Sam Houston fell 2-1 to Kennesaw State on Saturday at Pritchett Field in a physical conference opener.
Kennesaw State took a 1-0 lead in the third minute, sending the Bearkats into halftime trailing by one. The Owls extended their advantage in the 57th minute to make it 2-0.
Sam Houston answered late, as Ellie Morgan scored in the 89th minute to cut the deficit to one. The Bearkats continued to push for an equalizer but could not find a second goal before the final whistle.
Sam Houston outshot Kennesaw State 16-4 and recorded six shots on target. The Bearkats also held a 1-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Morgan led Sam Houston with four shots and two shots on goal, while Taylor Vance recorded two shots on target.
The loss moves the Bearkats to 4-3-3 overall and 0-1-0 in conference play. Sam Houston will look to bounce back when it hosts WKU on Friday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m.
