Entering his fifth year of collegiate coaching, Lake Leroux has established himself as one of the more dynamic young coaches in the college game was promoted to the role of Associate Head Coach for both the men's and women's programs at Sam Houston in July 2024.
While at SHSU, Leroux has helped engineer one of the most accomplished stretches in Bearkat golf history. With him at the helm, the Bearkats have claimed three conference championships, reached three NCAA Team Regionals, posted 22 total team wins and had three NCAA Individual Regional appearances. Leroux has been a fixture on the staff during two Conference Coach of the Year seasons and his programs have produced two Player of the Year honorees, 25 All-Conference selections, 13 individual tournament victories, and 21 GCAA/WGCA All-American Scholars, all while competing at the highest levels of collegiate golf.
Player development sits at the center of Leroux's coaching philosophy. He has coached the first player in program history to hold status on the Epson Tour, LET Access Series, and CLPGA Tour, and his players have competed on the game's biggest stages — including one appearance at the 2025 US Women's Open, the US Women's Amateur, the Women's Asia Pacific Amateur, and the Patriot All-American (twice). His players have captured titles at the Texas Women's Open, the Texas Women's Amateur (twice), the Texas Amateur, the Metropolitan Amateur, and the Ohio Women's Amateur, with one women's player climbing as high as 178th in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. Leroux has remained connected to the game at its highest level as well, caddying at the 2025 US Women's Open and on the Korn Ferry Tour at the 2021 Wichita Open.
Off the course, Leroux has been an active contributor to the program's growth and infrastructure alongside the full Bearkat Golf staff. The program has seen significant investment in recent years, with major facility upgrades underway that reflect the collective work of the staff in donor relations, event planning, and program stewardship. As a staff, they have hosted multiple fundraising dinners and events annually, including events that have drawn Power 4 programs, helping create momentum both on and off the course.
Leroux has also been a key part of the program's recruiting efforts, building a globally-diverse roster which spans nine countries and five continents, with signees holding credentials with US Amateur, US Women's Amateur, US Girls' Junior Amateur, US Boys' Junior Amateur, and top-500 European Golf Ranking status. He has also helped bring in impactful transfers from programs including Baylor, Colorado, and Akron.
Leroux came to Sam Houston after a 5-year collegiate playing career that began at Hutchinson CCÂ under GCAA Hall of Fame coach Cris Young, where he helped the Blue Dragons to two national championship appearances, a conference title, and an 11th-place national finish. While there he was named as a finalist for the NJCAA's Jimmy Russell Award, recognizing excellence in golf, academics, and community service.
He then moved on to Wichita State where he spent two seasons under former All-American Judd Easterling before transferring as a graduate student to Eastern Kentucky. There he played in all 13 events and 37 rounds of his final season, posting seven rounds at par or better, a top-10 finish, and a season-low 67 at the EKU Intercollegiate. He was named ASUN Golfer of the Week in February 2022.
On the amateur circuit, Leroux won the 2021 Columbia Golf Championship with a final-round 66 and posted strong finishes at the Missouri Stroke Play Championship and Rich Poe Invitational. He holds a bachelor's degree in exercise science from Wichita State and a master's degree in exercise and sport science with a sports administration emphasis from Eastern Kentucky.
Now coaching under Brandt Kieschnick — the 2021 GCAA Dave Williams Coach of the Year — Leroux has been shaped by an exceptional pedigree at every level of the game, from the coaches who developed him as a player to the staff he works alongside today.
A Columbia, Mo., native, Leroux is the son of Mark Leroux, the longtime former Head Men's Golf Coach at the University of Missouri. In July 2024, he married former Bearkat standout Leah Leroux (formerly Alberto), and the two reside in Huntsville, Texas, with their golden retriever, Archer.
Leah serves with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and together they are active members of their local church with a shared passion for reaching and investing in the lives of student-athletes.
