
Men's golf wins at Little Rock

LITTLE ROCK, AR -- Led by Beau Willis and Scott Kelly, who both tied for third place individually, the Sam Houston State men's golf squad won the team championship at the Univeristy of Arkansas-Little Rock First Tee Collegiate tournament.
The event is being played on the par 72, 7,221-yard course at Chenal Country Club.
The Bearkats, who led the tournament by nine strokes after Monday's first two rounds, held off a final round charge by Central Arkansas to grab the title with a 301-290-302--893 score.
Central Arkansas was the runner-up with 899 strokes. Missouri-Kansas City was third with a 911 score, followed by Arkansas-Little Rock 912, Missouri State 914, Louisiana-Monroe 918, Oral Roberts 922, Louisiana Tech 925, Arkansas State 927, Northern Illinois and Stephen F. Austin 933, Texas-San Antonio 934, Arkansas-Fort Smith 949, Northern Colorado 959, and Centenary 1018.
The championship marked the Sam Houston State's second tournament team title this season. The Bearkats won the Battle of the Bend in Many, LA, in November.
Kelly led the Bearkats on the final day with a one-under par 71. Kelly and Willis tied for third. Kelly's 54-hole total was 78-74-71--223 while Willis fired a 72-71-80--223.
Other Sam Houston State scores and standings were Fergal Rafferty 11th 75-73-78--226, Brandon Frankhouser 19th 76-72-81--229 and Scooter Jefferson 19th 82-74-73--229.
