
Men's golf wins title at Centenary

SHREVEPORT, LAÂ Led by Fergal Rafferty , Scott Kelly and John Hurley who finished second, third and fourth individually, the Sam Houston State men's golf team posted its fifth tournament team victory of the 2008-09 season Tuesday at the Hal Sutton Invitational hosted by Centenary College.

The Bearkats fired a team score of 308-302-295 ? 905 to defeat four other teams on the par 72, 6,954-yard course at Shreveport Country Club.

Host Centenary was the team runner-up nine strokes back at 914. The Gents' Mark Weeber won the individual medalist title with a one-over total of 71-70-76?217.

Rafferty was the individual runner-up with a 73-75-71?219 card. Kelly placed third with a 76-75-75?226 total. John Hurley was fourth totaling 81-74-76?231. Lee Broussard finished 9th (82-78-74?234) and Casey Nelson 10th (78-82-75?235).

McNeese State, the only other Southland team in the competition, was third with a 941 team total. North Dakota State (975) finished fourth and North Dakota (986) was fifth.

The tournament marked the final action for the Bearkats before they compete in the annual Southland Conference championships to take place April 27-29 at Kerrville, Texas.
