Kats No. 9 in National Rankings

College bowling head coaches across the nation rank the top 20 by vote.
The Bearkats fell from No. 5 to No. 9 in the December rankings despite a fourth place finish at the Big Red Invitational in Nebraska and a sixth place performance at the Arkansas State Mid-Winter Classic in January.
Sam Houston has winning records over two of the teams ranked above the Kats (2-0 vs. No. 2 Sacred Heart and 2-0 vs. No. 7 Vanderbilt) and .500 records two others (3-3 with No. 4 Arkansas State and 1-1 with No. 8 Nebraska).
The Bearkats stand 28-21 against all teams in the top 20 and are 53-26 for the season. Sam Houston won the Kat Klash Classic in Huntsville in December, took third at both the Greater Ozark Invitational and New Jersey Jamboree in October and November and was seventh at the Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawk Classic.
"We were No. 10 in the February poll during our inaugural season in 2010-11, so being No. 9 this year is nothing to worry about," Sam Houston head coach Brad Hagen said. "What counts is who the NCAA Division I committee picks for the final eight teams in the national championship tournament in Detroit in April. We just need to stay focused on what we are out to do and perform well in our remaining tournaments."
No. 1 Fairleigh Dickinson University of Teaneck, New Jersey, is the only team in the top 10 that Sam Houston has not defeated at least once this year. The Kats are 0-2 against FDU.
Sam Houston has rolled up 18 victories over the teams in the NTCA February Top 10 including six over No. 10 Stephen F. Austin, three versus Arkansas State, two each against No. 2 Sacred Heart, No. 6 Central Missouri and No. 7 Vanderbilt and one each versus No. 3 Valparaiso, No. 5 Maryland-Eastern Shore and No. 8 Nebraska.
All six Sam Houston bowlers are producing outstanding averages in NCAA traditional team play with Michelle Secours leading the team with a 200.14 average, followed by Neishka Cardona 196.73, Dayna Galganski 193.84, Lisa MacAllister 188.90, Kimi Davidson 188.59 and Aida Sanchez 184.44.
