Albert Miner was the individual medalist as the Sam Houston men's golf team finished first at the Wallace Jones Invitational at the Calvert Crossing Course in Calhoun, La.
Miner tied a tournament record with a first round 70 on the par 72, 6,822 yard course. There were only two other players that shot a round of 70 at the event. The junior shot a second round 75 and third round 74 and had to go to a playoff. He shot an even par on the fourth playoff hole to beat Oklahoma State's Sam Lee and Brad Gehl.
The Bearkats placed first overall with a three round total of 905 (+41), while Missouri-Kansas City was second at just three strokes back. Oklahoma City was just four strokes back in third place and Houston Baptist finished fourth with a total of 917.
This is the second tournament win for new head coach Brandt Kieschnick after the Kats won the SHSU Harold Funston Intercollegiate at Raven Nest in October.
Logan Boatner was tied for 12th after shooting 74-77-76-227 and JT Taylor finished tied for 17th (76-80-72-228). Justin McKay was 49th (82-75-81-238) and Chase Chapman was 56th (79-86-77-242).
