Women Sixth at Louisiana-Monroe

MONROE, La. -- Freshman Paige Nelson finished sixth in the individual medalist standings to lead the Sam Houston women's golf team to a sixth place finish at the Fred Marx Invitational hosted by Louisiana-Monroe.
Nelson fired a team-best score of 72 in the second round Monday. Her first-round 76 and third-round 73 put her sixth strokes ahead of her teammates.
Brooke Fouts (74-78-75-228) was tied for 18th, Alisa White (74-78-79-231) was teid for 30th, Abigayle Corson (82-75-77-234) finished tied for 38th, and Nicole Budnik (81-80-78-239) was tied for 48th.
Louisiana-Monroe, the host team won the team title of the 13-team field with an 884, one shot better than Lamar. Troy finished in third place with an 895 followed by Houston Baptist (903) then McNeese State (909). Other team totals had South Alabama (919), Incarnate Word and Stephen F. Austin tied for eighth (931), Oklahoma City University (932), New Orleans (940), McLennan Community College (960) and Jackson State (770).
Louisiana-Monroe's Alison Knowles was the individual medalists with a 212, four shot better than Lamar's Taylor Stockton's 216.
