LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- Zach Cabra finished tied for fourth to lead the Sam Houston State men's golf team to a runner-up finish at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate played on the New Mexico State University Golf Course.
The senior from McKinney placed in the top-5 for the fourth consecutive tournament. Cabra finished tied for fifth at Miramont last week, he won the Harold Funston Intercollegiate at Raven Nest and was tied for fifth at the Wisconsin Badger Invitational.
Cabra fired a 70 in each of the first two rounds before going low in the third round with a 67. He finished six-under par and one stroke back of first place.
Sophomore transfer Andrew Ertel also finished inside the top-10. He started strong with a 70 but cooled off and shot a 73 in the second round. He finished strong with a third-round 68 to shoot up the leaderboard.
Klein Klotz finished tied for 25th after shooting 72-71-72 on the 7,242 yard, par 71 course.
Freshman Jake McCrory was following up a strong performance at the Miramont Invitational last week and finished tied for 30th after he shot 71-74-72.
JT Taylor was in great shape going after he fired a 70 in the second round. But after posting a 76 in the final round he finished tied for 36th. Taylor has posted two top-10 finishes this season after returning from injury in 2013-14.
This tournament concluded Sam Houston's fall schedule. The Bearkats finished in the top-5 at all five events in the fall and won the Wisconsin Badger Invitational and the SHSU Harold Funston Intercollegiate.
Sam Houston will open the spring at the UTSA Oak Hills Invitational, Feb. 9-10, in San Antonio.
