On the eve of Sam Houston's third appearance in the NCAA Bowling Championships, Bearkat senior Kimi Davidson was named as an honorable mention selection on the 2014 women's bowling All-America squad.
The All-American teams are selected based on votes from collegiate head coaches who are members of the National Tenpin Coaches Association. The awards were presented Wednesday night at the annual NCAA national championships banquet.
Davidson's honor marks her second consecutive year to make the NCAA Women's Bowling All-America list. She also was selected as a junior in 2013. She is one of three Bearkats to earn All-America honors in the program's four-year history. Dayna Galganski (2011, 2012) and Michelle Secours (2012, 2013) also were voted as All-America bowlers.
Davidson and her teammate Neishka Cardona are the last of the original members of SHSU's inaugural women's bowling team in 2010-11. The pair have led the Bearkats to NCAA Elite Eight appearances three of their four years at Sam Houston.
Davidson is a history major from Azle, Texas. In their four seasons as Sam Houston bowlers, Davidson and Cardona have led the Bearkats to an overall record of 342 victories and only 158 losses in dual match play.
In traditional team matches (one of two formats the bowlers play in tournament action), Davidson has posted a career average of 193.34 total pins.
This season, Davidson has posted a 197.83 average in team action.
NCAA action begins Thursday with round robin traditional team matches to decide seeding for Friday's best-of-seven baker double elimination tournament.
Sam Houston joins ArkansasState, Central Missouri, Nebraska, Maryland-EasternShore, Fairleigh Dickinson, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin-Whitewater in the NCAA field.. Sam Houston has dual match victories over each of these teams this year including four wins over No. 1 Arkansas State and three over defending champion Nebraska.
During the 2013-14 season, Sam Houston has totaled 90 victories, the second highest total in NCAA Division I women's bowling this year (behind only No. 1
All eight berths in the national tournament are at-large selections.
All of Thursday's qualifying action and Friday's tournament play will be streamed live through the ncaa.com website. The championship finals show will be telecast Saturday night at 7 p.m. on ESPNU.
