Cabra wins Bayou City Collegiate Championship

HUMBLE -- Senior Zach Cabra took home his fifth career individual medalist honor to lead the Sam Houston State men's golf team to a runner-up finish at the 2015 Bayou City Collegiate Championship.
Cabra fired a seven-under 65 in the final round to seal the victory. He improved in every round, after he shot a 72 in the first round and a 71 in the second round. Cabra won three events his junior year – the Kansas State Jim Colbert Invitational, the SHSU Harold Funston Intercollegiate and the Southland Conference Championship – and one earlier this season – the Harold Funston Intercollegiate for the second time.
The Bearkats were outstanding in the second and third rounds of the tournament. After going seven over on the first day, the Kats were eight under in the second round and 11 under in the final round. Sam Houston had the best team total (277) in Sunday's third round.
Senior JT Taylor finished tied for seventh after he fired a 69 in the final round. He had a consistent tournament, shooting 73 in the first round and 71 in the second.
The rest of the Bearkats all finished in the top 30. Andrew Ertel was tied for 23rd while Logan Boatner and Jake McCrory were tied for 29th.
Ertel remained consistent throughout the event, shooting 73-74-71. Boatner and McCrory were less consistent but had one great round apiece. Boatner shot a second round 68 and McCrory fired a 70 in the second round.
Sam Houston finished ahead of several ranked opponents – No. 10 Baylor in third, No. 38 Arkansas in fourth and No. 31 Houston in fifth.Â
