Men tie for fourth at Pepperdine

VALENCIA, Calif. -- The Sam Houston State men's golf team finished tied for fourth at the Jones Invitational hosted by Pepperdine University. The Bearkats were playing in their second tournament of the week after they finished runner-up at the Bayou City Collegiate Championship.
Seniors JT Taylor and Zach Cabra were the top two Bearkat finishers, both placing inside the top 20.
Taylor, who finished tied for 15th, was hampered by a second-round 75. He shot a 71 in the first round and an even 72 in the final round.
Cabra was tied for 19th on the par-72 7,019 yard course. His first round score of 71 was his best of the tournament.
Andrew Ertel finished 30th, Jake McCrory was 35th and Logan Boatner tied for 42nd. The freshman McCrory rallied from a slow start and finished the event with a one-under 71.
The tough field was led by No. 4 Southern California, who won by 16 strokes. Kennesaw State was second at two over par and Northwestern was four strokes back in fourth. The Kats tied with BYU for fourth place.
