Men third at Border Olympics

LAREDO -- After struggling and finishing 12th a year ago at the prestigious Border Olympics, the 41st-ranked Bearkats played outstanding and finished third this year. Sam Houston State placed behind nationally ranked opponents Baylor and Houston.
The No. 13 Baylor Bears pulled away on the final day and finished three strokes ahead of the No. 33 Houston Cougars.
Zach Cabra finished inside the top-10 yet again, placing sixth. He fired a 5-under 67 in the second round keep himself in contention for individual medalist honors. The senior birdied seven holes in his stellar second round.
Freshman Jake McCrory had another strong tournament and finished tied for 11th. His second-round 69 was his best of the weekend.
Senior JT Taylor had a solid second round with a 2-under 70 but finished tied for 34th. Logan Boatner was tied for 40th but did go a combined 4-under in the final two rounds. Andre Ertel was tied for 88th.
Bearkat Kyle Hodges played as an individual and finished 102nd in the field. Hodges competed in his third event of the spring after playing as an individual at the Oak Hills Invitational and Bayou City Championship.
With the spring season winding down the Kats will head to the Texas State Jim West Intercollegiate April 6-7 at the Wolfdancer Golf Course in Bastrop. Sam Houston will then head to the Southland Championship in hopes of winning a second straight title.
