Sewell takes fifth at SMU tournament

DALLAS – Chad Sewell had another impressive showing for the Sam Houston men's golf team, placing fifth at the Trinity Forest Invitational hosted by SMU.

Sewell shot a final round 68 on Tuesday at the par 71 course to climb eight spots on the leaderboard, in the 78 player field. His overall score of 4-under, 209, was 11 shots back of Noah Goodwin from SMU who won the event going away. For Sewell, it's the third top-five finish of the season for the UTSA transfer from Conroe.

As a team, the Bearkats fell three spots on Tuesday and finished in sixth place. They were three over for the day and finished the tournament two over par.

Ting-Wei Hsieh and Grayson Blunt each got their days off to a great start, with eagles on No. 1. Hsieh finished the day with a 74 and recorded his third top 20 finish this season in as many events. He closed out the tournament in a tie for 17that 1-over for the tournament.Â

Blunt birdied two of his last four holes and fired a 72 for the day, finishing in a tie for 22nd. Jack Randle shot a 76 on Tueday and was 8-over for the tournament, closing in a tie for 44th. Bret Gray finished tied for 53rd at 11-over following a final round 73.

Playing as an individual, Joshua German shot a 74 on Tuesday and finished tied for 46th.Â

The Kats will be back in action for the Bentwater Intercollegiate presented by Huntsville Toyota. The three-day event will be held Monday-Wednesday at Bentwater Country Club in Montgomery.  Â
