MADISON, Wis. – With an 8-over round of 296, the Sam Houston men's golf team held off a charge from Cincinnati to take second place at the Badger Invitational.Â
Â
The Kats entered the final day four shots back of Illinois State, and despite the Redbirds shooting the worst round of the 14 teams in the field on Tuesday, the Kats fell three shots short of their second title of the season.Â
Â
The Kats placed a pair of golfers in the top 10, with Chad Sewell finishing tied for fifth, 2-under over the 54 holes. He finished five shots behind the tournament winner Sam Jean from Cincinnati. His final round 72 moved him five spots up the final standings. It was the low round of the day for the Bearkats.
Â
Grayson Blunt finished in a tie for 9th, shooting 73 on Tuesday. Blunt finished one spot behind Sewell, finishing his day strong closing with birdies on Nos. 16 and 17. He overcame a +3 start to his round after just four holes.Â
Â
Ting-Wei Hsieh shot 75 on Tuesday to finish tied for 19th, 1-over for the tournament. Jack Randle was tied for 26th after a 78 on Tuesday and Bret Gray was 34th, shooting 76 in the final round.Â
Â
The Bearkats will be back in action next week at the Trinity Forest Invitational host by SMU.Â
