Bearkats win in return to Elkins Lake

HUNTSVILLE – It's like they never left.

Elkins Lake, which served as the home of the Bearkat Invitational for many years, played host for the first time since 2009 and the Kats played like it's been their home all along.

Sam Houston ran away with an 11-shot victory at the Huntsville Toyota Bearkat Invitational.

The Bearkats shot a round-best 291 on Tuesday to stay head of fellow WAC member Cal Baptist, who matched the Bearkats with a 291.

The Kats also boasted three top 10 finishers, with Jennifer Herbst taking second and Zulaikah Nasser finishing in a tie for third. Viera Permata Rosada, who was playing as an individual finished tied for 9^th.

Herbst played a consistent round of golf on Tuesday, shooting a bogey-free 69. She birded the 6^th and then closed her round with a birdie on No. 18. The second place finish was the second of the season for Herbst.

Nasser followed her victory in the opener of the season with another top 5 finish. She finished 1-over for the tournament after a 75 on Tuesday.

Anna Takahashi shot a 76 in her final round to finish 8-over for the tournament and tied for 14^th. It's her third top-20 finish in three tournaments this season. Leah Alberto was 22^nd, shooting her low round of the tournament with a 73.

For the Bearkats, it's three tournament wins in three tries. They will try to make it four in two weeks when they head to Tulsa for the Dale McNamara Invitational.
