SEATTLE — A poor offensive showing to start the second half doomed Sam Houston in a 78-63 loss to Seattle U on Saturday at the Redhawk Center.
The Bearkats (13-10, 8-2 WAC) led by as many as 14 points in the second half when
Savion Flagg and
Jaden Ray hit consecutive 3-pointers, but a five-minute scoring drought allow the Redhawks (17-4, 8-0) to get back in the game.
Seattle used a 17-0 run to take the lead at 50-47 at the 13:24 mark. Ray stopped the bleeding with a 3, and
Donte Powers hit a jumper to put Sam Houston back on top.
The Redhawks went on a 20-0 run to put the game away.
Sam Houston once again got off to a blazing start when Lampley hit back-to-back 3-pointers to make it 15-5 five minutes into the game. The Bearkats scored seven more unanswered points on a basket by
Javion May and a pair of free throws and another long-range shot by Lampley to lead by 17.
The Redhawks made a run to get back in the game. Seattle U scored 11 straight points to pull within 28-20, but Sam Houston pushed the lead back to 13 on a 3 by
Jarren Cook.
A 4-0 run by the Redhawks to close the half made it 39-30.
Flagg led the Bearkats with 14 points, and Ray scored 12.
Demarkus Lampley scored all 11 of his points in the first half.
Sam Houston returns home to host Dixie State on Thursday at Johnson Coliseum.
