Men's Golf takes 5th at Border Olympics

LAREDO - The Sam Houston men's golfers opened the spring season with a fifth place finish this week at the Border Olympics in Laredo.

The Kats entered the final round in a tie for second, but a 309 on Tuesday cost them. They finished the tournament at 19-over par and 10 shots behind fourth place Baylor.

Chad Sewell finished in a tie for 12^th (71, 70, 78 – 219). Jack Randle also turned in a top 20 finish after a 77 on Tuesday to fire a 221 and take 19^th.

Gene Chaikangwal shot a 76 and 222 for the tournament to finish 22^nd, Grayson Blunt was one shot back in 25^th and Ting-Wei Hsieh shot a 78 and finished 36^th.

Josh German, who was playing as an individual had the best round of the day for the Bearkats. He closed with a 74 and finished in a tie for 12^th with Sewell.

The Kats will be back in action in three weeks when they head to San Diego for the Lampkin Grips SD Classic.
