HUNTSVILLE — The Sam Houston tennis team took care of business Sunday by beating Lamar 5-2 to win the program's first-ever WAC dual match at the McAdams Tennis Center.
The Bearkats (6-8, 1-1) got off to a great start by winning the doubles point.
Sahithi Vutukuru and
Lusine Chobanyan opened with a 6-3 win over Noelia Lorca and Lou Dupuis at No. 3 doubles, and
Andjela Vidovic and
Sunskrithi Damera put the finishing touches on with a 6-4 victory over Alba Perez and Elena Tairyan at No. 1.
Damera gave Sam Houston a 2-0 lead with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Dupuis at No. 6 singles. Chobanyan followed with a 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 victory at No. 3, and Vutukuru clinched the match with a 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 win at No. 3.
Vidovic notched the Bearkats' other point with a 7-6, 3-6, 7-5 victory over Ana Jolic in No. 2 singles.
Sam Houston will host Stephen F. Austin on Friday at 1 p.m.
