
Gray wins rain-shortened All-American, Kats take 4th

HOUSTON -Â After inclement weather hit the Houston area Tuesday morning, the final round of The All-American Intercollegiate was canceled. The Bearkats finish the event in 4th place while Bret Gray tied for medalist honors.
It's the first career victory for the freshman from San Antonio, whose previous best was a 9th place finish at the K-State Wildcat Invitational.Â
With high wind conditions and rain throughout the on Monday at the Golf Club of Houston, the Kats posted on of the best rounds of the day with a 289 in the second of play. They one shot back of North Texas and Houston at 11-over, while No. 33 ranked Florida State won the event at 7-under.

Playing as an individual, Gray fired rounds of 71 and 70 to tie for 1st at 3-under for the tournament. Gray did he damage on the back 9, shooting 6-under over his two rounds, including a 4-under in round 2.

Two other Bearkats finished in the top 20 of the 100 player field. Chad Sewell tied for 8th after back-to-back rounds of 72 to finish even-par for the tournament.

Ting-Wei Hsieh tied for 18th, shooting rounds or 73 and 74, to sit at 3-over.Â

Grayson Blunt and Gene Chaikangwal were each 4-over for the tournament and tied for 23rd. Blunt bounced back from a 76 to shoot a 72 in round two. Chaikangwal opened the day Monday with a 77 and then fired a 71 on his second 18 holes. Jack Randle tied for 67th at 11-over par.Â
