Hsieh leads Kats at Bearcat Invite

CINCINNATI — Junior Ting-Wei Hsieh finished tied for fourth place to highlight action for the Sam Houston men's golf team at the Bearcat Invite hosted by Cincinnati Monday and Tuesday.

The Bearkats placed seventh overall out of 13 teams at the par-71, 7,279 course at Coldstream Country Club. Sam Houston shot 10-over 862 with rounds of 285, 285 and 292 to finish behind Cincinnati (845), UNC Greensboro (846), Louisville (847), Illinois State (853), Memphis (860) and Ball State (861).

The tournament was halted on Monday due to lack of daylight and resumed Tuesday morning following a fog advisory.

Hsieh shot rounds of 67-71-70 to finish at 5-under 208. For the tournament, he had 14 birdies.

Bret Gray tied for 14th at even-par 213 thanks to rounds of 71-69-73. Gene Chaikangwal tied for 39^th with rounds of 75-71-74 for 7-over 220.

Josh German shot 8-over 221 with rounds of 72-74-75 to tie for 44^th. Nathan Weber finished 18-over to finish 74^th with a 231 (78-77-76).

The Bearkats will hit the links again on Oct. 2-3 at the Trinity Forest Invitational hosted by SMU in Dallas.
