Kats top Houston at Bluejack Shootout

MONTGOMERY — Led by Bret Gray's second round score of 9-under par 63, the Sam Houston men's golf team defeated Houston at the Bluejack National Shootout on Monday.

Gray won individual medalist honors with rounds of 69 and 63 to shoot 12-under par in the 36-hole event held at the par-72, 7,552-yard Bluejack National Club course. He had nine birdies and nine pars in the second round.

The Bearkats shot 30-under 690 to knock of the Cougars by nine strokes. The 30-under par is a new school record for 36 holes.

Kristoffer Max tied for second with rounds of 68 and 69 to finish 7-under 137. Gene Chaikangwal and Jack Randle tied for sixth at 4-under 140.

Ting-Wei Hsieh shot rounds of 70 and 71 to place 10th at 3-under 141. Samuel McKenzie shot even 144 with rounds of 73 and 71 to place 14th and Josh German (1-over 145) and Nathan Weber (6-over 150) finished 15th and 16th respectively.
