2021-22 Season
Max enjoyed the best season of his four-year CU career, as he was second on the team in stroke average with an even 72.00 ... That’s almost two strokes better than his previous season-best (73.74 in ’19-20 as a sophomore) ... Also had the best fall season of his career to date, averaging 71.75 for 12 rounds with three top 20 finishes ... Has 97 career rounds on his resume, so will hit the century mark at the Pac-12’s; he’ll be the 38th Buff to do so ... Lead the team in percentage of rounds counting toward the team score (1.000; 18 of 18; has played six as an individual) ... His 76 is the “low” high score on the team as well ... Owns the second-best middle round average on the team at 71.13, a shade behind Justin Biwer’s 71.0, as well as the second-best subpar percentage for holes played (20.6) ... Has just 10 holes worse than bogey all year (out of 432; nine doubles and one triple) ... Recorded the best mark by a Buff in the Wyoming Match Play Championship, going 2-0-1 in his matches ... Top finish was a tie for 10th in Air Force’s Miranda Invitational (221, +5) ... 2020-21 Season
Was sixth on the team in stroke average with a 74.54 figure for 13 rounds … his 71.50 first round average tied for the best on the team … Recorded his first collegiate win when he captured the Southern Colorado Masters with a 7-under 206 score; his first round 65 was his best round in college by some four strokes, with his second round 69 matching his previous top effort … Struggled early on (three rounds of his first six 80 or higher) before settling down to average 72.6 strokes in the last two events … Tied for 63rd in the Pac-12 Championships (302, +14), though he turned in an even-par 72 in the third round ... At one point he scored par or better for 31 straight holes – the last seven in the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate and the first 24 in the Southern Colorado Masters – tied for the best run on the team … Scored 39 pars in the former.
2019-20 Season
Had a 73.74 stroke average for the season, as he competed in 17 of 23 rounds as an individual … Best effort and finish came in the season opener in the Air Force Miranda Invitational, when he recorded a 2-under 214 total to tie for 12th (his best round of the season also came in that event, a third round, 3-under 69) … Scored 14 birdies in that event, and also made 14 in the Lamkin San Diego Classic, which turned out to be the final tournament of the shortened season … Also had three finishes between 21st and 26th, the latter in CU’s Simpson Invitational, the other event he was under par in over the course of the year (215, -1) … He led the team in eagles (3) in the fall and had four total on the year (tied for second-most) … His 72.00 final round stroke average was the team-best for the fall, with his 73.13 for the year the second-best.
2018-19 Season
His season stroke average of 74.81 was the 17th-best by a freshman at Colorado (seventh-best on the team this season; his spring average of 74.39 is the fourth best) ... Played 37 rounds, tied for the fourth-most ever by a freshman at CU ... He tended to play his best in final rounds, with his 74.0 mark fourth-best on the team; his best single round of the season has been a 70, which he shot four times in the third/final round ... On one of those occasions (Lamkin San Diego Classic), it followed a second round 84, with the 14-shot improvement from one round to the next tied for ninth-best in program history ... He shot his 54-hole best of 217 three times (1-over twice, 4-over once) ... Tied for 59th in the Pac-12 Championships (304, +20, with most of the overage due to a second round 81; he was 9-over for the other three rounds) … He has had 78.6 percent of his rounds count toward team scoring (22 of 28), with his nine other rounds played as an individual (the first three tournaments of the year; he was a designated scorer for CU’s last nine events, all seven in the spring) ... He played in all five of CU’s fall events, three as an individual and two as a designated scorer … After a rough start to his collegiate career that saw him play his first two tournaments at 34-over par, he settled down to play the last three at just 11-over, including a pair of 1-over 217 efforts that afforded him top 20 finishes (tying for 14th in CU’s own Mark Simpson Invitational, his best finish of the year, and tying for 19th in the New Mexico Tucker Invitational) ... Top spring finish was a tie for 29th in Wyoming’s Desert Intercollegiate (221, +5) … His 14 birdies in DU’s Paintbrush Invitational was the team-high for a tournament for the year, with his 15 pars in Arizona State’s Sun Devil Thunderbird tied for the most pars by a Buff in an event (one of seven times it occurred).
Amateur Golf
Tied for 11th in the Colorado Golf Association’s Fall Amateur (70-72-71—213, +3) at Common Ground CC in Aurora. 2018: Tied for 30th in the prestigious Biarritz Cup in France, carding a 66-71-70-68—275 (-1) effort … Placed 45th in the (international) Junior Invitational at Sage Valley Golf Club (Graniteville, S.C.: 79-81-76—236, +20). 2017: He was ranked as the No. 12 boys’ golfer in the U18 (Under-18) category by EuropeanGolfRankings.com (out of 2,117 players) … In seven major tournaments for the year, he had five top 13 finishes, including a pair of impressive wins: in the Skandia Junior Open (at the Salems Golf Club in Sweden), he shot a 69-73-68—210 (3-under), and in the European Boys Team Championship, he carded a 6-under 69-71—140 at the La Manga Golf Club in Spain … He also reached the semifinals in match play of the French Boys Championships (Golf de Granville) after tying for fourth in the stroke play portion with a 68-70—138 (6-under) effort … He was also ninth in the German Boys event (69-72—141) and 13th in the Danish International Amateur Championships (78-72-73-72—295).
Junior Golf
Max ranked as the No. 12 boys' golfer in the U18 (Under-18) category by EuropeanGolfRankings.com (out of 2,117 players). His notable Junior wins include the Skandia Junior Open firing 69-73-68—210 (3-under) and won the prestigious European Boys Team Championship carding 69-71—140, 9th in the German Boys event (69-72—141) and 13th in the Danish International Amateur Championships (78-72-73-72—295).
