Kats place third at WAC Championships

BOULDER CITY, Nevada — The Sam Houston men's golf tried to make a run up the leaderboard fell short at the Western Athletic Conference Championships at the Boulder Creek Golf Club on Sunday.

The Bearkats shot a 6-under 282 in the final round to finish in third place at 23-under 841 after 54 holes. Grand Canyon was 11-under on Sunday which led to the Antelopes winning the championship at 34-under 830, five strokes ahead of second place New Mexico.

Seattle placed fourth (842) followed by Utah Valley (845), UT Arlington (849), Utah Tech (854), Abilene Christian (856), UTRGV (861), Tarleton (863), California Baptist (867), Southern Utah (871) and Stephen F. Austin brought up the rear at 875.

Bret Gray tied for third place in the individual standings after shooting a 1-under 71 on Sunday. He finished with an 11-under 204 for the tournament, eight strokes behind the Garrison Smith of New Mexico State who won.

Samual McKenzie shot a 1-over 73 to finish tied for 20th at 3-under 213. Josh German also shot 1-over in the final round to tie for 26th at 2-under 214.

Kristoffer Max was 2-under Sunday to finish tied for 29 at 215. Ting-Wei Hsieh shot a 4-under 68 to conclude the tournament.
