Bearkats to make CUSA debut in Ruston

HUNTSVILLE— The Sam Houston Bearkats will open Conference USA play on the road on Friday in Ruston when it kicks off a three-game weekend series against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs.

All three games from Dr. Billy Bundrick Field will be aired on ESPN+

The Kats and Bulldogs have met 29 times on the diamond with Sam Houston trailing the series 13-15.

Game notes
- Sam Houston enters the weekend having won six of its last nine games, including a sweep last weekend of Abilene Christian. Of the Kats' three losses in that 9-game span, two came at the hands of ranked opponents Texas A&M and Baylor.

- The Bearkats will be making their CUSA debut on Friday as they face LA Tech as a conference opponent for the first time.

- The Kats last traveled to Ruston early in the 2022 season for the LA Tech Invitational, splitting a pair of games. In the victory, Mika Vento led the Bearkats in the circle to a 4-2 win. Brodie Quinlan's pivotal double in the eighth inning brought home two runs, securing the win.

-Ellie Grill has consistently set the tone as a leadoff hitter for the Bearkats with a .406 batting average. Her performance was highlighted by a solo home run to open the first game of the ACU series, setting the tone for a decisive 10-1 victory over the Wildcats.
