HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston Bearkats will try to get back in the win column on Tuesday when they travel to Beaumont for a midweek battle with former conference rival Lamar at Vincent-Beck Stadium.

Tuesday's game in Beaumont will be aired on ESPN+.

The Kats are picked up their fifth midweek win of the season last Tuesday vs Rice before falling three straight times to Liberty over the weekend. Sam Houston is 5-3 in midweek games but will be looking for their first midweek road win of the season.

Freshman Ryan Peterson is set to get the ball for his second consecutive midweek start. He was outstanding one week ago vs Rice, going 5.0 innings for his first career win. He retired each of the final 15 batters he faced with seven strikeouts.

SERIES NOTES vs LAMAR
- Sam Houston owns a 77-66-1 all-time advantage over the Cardinals, including 29-41 in Beaumont.
- The Kats and Cardinals have not met on the diamond since the 2022 season, Lamar's only season in the WAC before returning to the Southland.
- The Cardinals took two of three games in each of those series in 2022. Prior to that, the Kats had won 12 games in a row over Lamar dating back to 2016.

BEARKAT NOTES FOR THE WEEKEND
- Janek is arguably the top defensive backstop in the nation and has thrown out 10 of 19 attempted swipers on the year.
- The Kats have been outstanding on the bases in their own right as they lead Conference USA with 49 steals for the season. Caleb Cotton leads the team and ranks fifth in the league with nine swipes, while Jake Tatom's eight is ranked seventh.
- The Kats' pitching staff is issuing just 3.29 walks per nine innings, a mark ranking 14th in the nation.
- Sam Houston's 4.46 ERA ranks second in CUSA. Coltin Atkinson continues to lead the staff, ranking second in CUSA in both ERA (1.91) and strikeouts (41).

A QUICK LOOK AT THE CARDINALS
- The Cardinals are one of the hottest teams in the nation and are most recently coming off a weekend sweep at No. 25 Oklahoma.
- Lamar had a 13-game win streak, the longest in the country at the time, snapped in its last midweek game when it fell, 6-4, to Houston one week ago.
- Lamar is 10-1 at home this season, not falling at Vincent-Beck Stadium since March 2 to UT Arlington.
