
Kats dominate at Bearkat Invitational

HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston women's golf team handled business on its home court this week, rolling to a 37-shot win at the Remax Prime Properties Bearkat Invitational at Bearkat Course.
Teammates Grace Jin and Amelia Guo were tied at the top of the individual leaderboard after 36 holes on Monday following matching rounds of 69; however, Jin closed with four birdies in a span of five holes on the back nine of Tuesday's final round to shoot a final-round 66 and take her second individual title in as many tries this year.
In all, the Kats finished at even par in the 54-hole event with Tarleton the closest team to them at +35.
Jin finished 10 shots under par for the week after closing with a birdie at No. 18. Meanwjhile, Guo was the only other player in the field under par at -5, turning in three straight rounds of 69. Gracie Heinle turned in a top-5 finish at +10 for the week in an effort buoyed by rounds of 69 and 71 on Monday.
Other finishers for the Kats include Victoria Renzi (+12; T10) and Cari Denson (+15; T17).
Sam Houston will next compete on the road on October 14-15 when it heads to Broken Arrow, Okla., for the Dale MacNamara Invitational. The event is hosted by the University of Tulsa and will be held at Cedar Ridge Golf Club.
