
Tennis to host ACU on Sunday

HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston women duel with a former Southland Conference opponent for the third consecutive time Sunday when the Abilene Christian Wildcats visit the Beckner Tennis Center Sunday beginning at 11:00 a.m.
The contest marks the 30th all-time meeting in the two opponents' histories. The rivalry goes back to 1983 with ACU leading the series with 23-6. The Bearkats have won four of the last six encounters between the pair.
Sam Houston owns a 4-3 overall record so far this season. The Kats are coming off a 4-0 shut out of Lamar last Sunday in Beaumont. UTSA defeated Sam Houston in the squad's first encounter with a former Southland foe for 2025.
Abilene Christian owns a 2-6 record after having opened with a tough preseason slate with road losses to SMU, Texas Tech, NM State, Texas and Texas State. ACU defeated UIW and Dallas Baptist in the Wildcats' latest outings
"We always expect a tough contest from Abilene Christian," Sam Houston head coach Rob Hubbard said. "They have an outstanding program. Our girls our coming along nicely. They have been working hard to improve every match."
In the win over the Cardinals in Beaumont last week victories by Adithi Verkataka Krishnan and Ella Fitcher at number two doubles and Aaliyah Holmann and Sara Sadadinovic at three doubles earned the Kats the doubles point.
Nayuma Subba, Krishnan and Sadadinovic won at the number one, four and singles respectively to clinch the victory. Christine Jevicky, Jacqueline Schnabel and Holmann all were ahead in in their singles matches when the dual match was clinched.
