Kats close Westbrook Invitational

PEORIA, Ariz. – The Sam Houston women's golf team finished tied for 13th at the Westbrook Invitational on Monday at Westbrook Village Golf Course.
The Bearkats rebounded after a tough second round against four nationally-ranked teams. The Kats finished with +3 in the final round, shooting +21 overall in 54 holes and tied with Washington State for 13th.
In the end, the 25th ranked Kansas Jayhawks took the team title making them two-time reigning champions in the tournament, finishing -38 overall. The next closest team to the Jayhawks was the 35th ranked UNLV with -27, followed by 30th ranked Kansas State with -24.
Grace Jin continued to lead the Kats in a strong finish shooting four under, placing 19th individually. Jin had four birdies in round three and a scorecard of 71-72-69. Amelia Guo comes just behind her with one under. Guo stayed consistent and shot 71-72-72 with three birdies in the final round.
Cari Denson and Gracie Heinle stayed together shooting +13 and tied for 68th. Denson cleaned up in the third round shooting +2 and finished with 75-80-74. Heinle shot two birdies in the final round to shoot 75 making her overall scorecard 74-80-75. Victoria Renzi finished with 77-80-81.
The Bearkats will travel next week to Jacksonville, Flordia for the UNF Invitational at Jacksonville Golf and Country Club. The tournament will begin Monday, March 3, and is hosted by the North Florida Ospreys.
